Google Enhances Restaurant Search on Android Devices

Google just announced changes to the hotel and restaurant search options on Android devices. Users can now filter results by:

  • Price
  • Ratings
  • Cuisine
  • What’s open right now

These new filters are activated when a user searches for “show me restaurants in [location].” When viewing search results, consumers will now have access to these filter options. While the search filters are currently only available in the United States, Google has hinted that the roll out will expand soon.

So what does this mean as a marketer or business owner? With consumers now able to search on ratings of your business, you need to be even more focused on capturing consumer reviews on Google+. How can you get your happy customers to provide reviews on Google+?

  • Ask! Simply ask your customers to leave reviews on Google+. It will provide insight into your customer’s preferences and thoughts and provide important content on your Google+ page.
  • Be Responsive. If a customer emails you or sends a letter with a positive review, reach out to them, thank them for their kind words, and ask them to post their comments to your Google+ page.
  • Make It Easy. Provide information to customers on how to access your Google+ page. Cards at the check-out counter, inserts in invoices or flyers attached to receipts or orders are a great way to spread the word.
  • Inform the Team. Make sure all your employees understand the importance of asking for reviews and providing information to your customers.

In addition to capturing consumer reviews, be sure your Google Places for Business profile is complete.

With just a little effort, you can increase your presence on Google+ and make it easier for consumers to find your location.
