The half year sales report for Internet advertising in the U.S. has just been released by the IAB and it’s good news all the way around. US online advertising has logged another record breaking period with $17 billion in revenues for the first six months of the year. This represents a 14% increase over the same period in 2011.
Other highlights of the IAB’s report include Mobile advertising reaching $1.2 billion for the first six months of 2012, up 95% over the first six months of 2011 when revenues were at just $636 million. Gartner’s is forecasting mobile ad revenues to hit $20.6 billion in 2015.
Digital video ads increased 18% year-over-year to just over $1 billion in revenue. In the first six month of 2011, digital video ads brought in revenues of $900 million.
Display ad revenues were up 4% over the first half of 2011. Display ad revenues totaled $5.6 billion in the first half of 2012 and represented 33% of all 2012 half year revenues. Search revenues came in at $8.1 billion, up 19% over 2011 revenues in the same period, giving search 48% of the online ad revenues for the six month period in 2012.
“This report establishes that marketers increasingly embrace mobile and digital video, as well as the entire panoply of interactive platforms to reach consumers in innovative and creative ways,” writes Randall Rothenberg, president and CEO of the IAB.
