Is your Google+ page verified? Have you claimed your Google My Business listing? If you’ve answered no to these questions, now is the time to check these tasks off your to do list.
Google has recently announced that as of July 28, 2015 they will “begin shutting down those GMB–associated Google+ pages that have not been associated with user accounts and are also not verified.”
What does this mean?
Unverified Google+ pages will be going away. With just a few days until the changes take effect, now is the time to claim and verify your Google+ listing if you want to keep your Google My Business page. Information on how to verify a local business on Google can be found here.
Why is Google doing this? It appears to be an effort to clean things up. With unverified pages removed from local search, only those claimed and optimized pages will be viewable by consumers. This is good news for those with claimed pages, as there will be less competition for ranking, but the effects could be dramatic on local businesses who haven’t taken the time to claim their listings.
